Why am I having trouble opening the Microsoft Office 2007 documents my students are sending me?
Microsoft Office 2007 documents can only be opened and viewed within the Microsoft Office 2007 environment (software downloaded on your computer) or the Compatibility 0 By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats.
Here's a Tip: When creating documents with Microsoft Office 2007, save them as PDF files, also. Upload them or send them out as email attachments in the .pdf format. That way, your students and colleagues with the versions of Microsoft 2003 and under can open them without any problems.
